What are Thrust Needle Roller Bearings?

Thrust roller bearings are another variant of needle roller bearings that have multiple components which assemble to form one unit. This comprises a needle and a cage that guides and retains the rollers. This bearing can take load in axial direction.

Another unique design aspect of this bearing is, the assembled unit does not have an inner or outer ring unlike other bearings in this category. The heat treated and finished mounting surface can be used as a raceway. These bearings have high rigidity, and very high load capacity despite their small size.

Features of Thrust Needle Roller Bearings

Thrust needle roller bearings are typically needle roller bearings with a cage. Suitable for automobiles, trains, compressors, hydraulic pumps, and other industrial machineries.

  • These bearings come with a two-piece cage, made of high precision-pressed steel which helps the roller glide effortlessly
  • The cage comes with a hardened surface making it suitable for long term wear and tear.
  • These come with raceway washers designed for applications where conventional thrust washers can be replaced.
  • Type of bearing depends on the thicknesses of the raceway washers. So based on the mounting condition of the application, the thickness is chosen.
  • It’s an integrated bearing that is assembled with a cage, appropriate rollers, and applicable raceway.
